Neal’s Yard Remedies Beauty Book

Tuesday, February 10th, 2015

This is a hefty little book (it’s almost given Jo a bad back lugging it around in her bag!), but so worth an addition to the bookshelf if (like us) you enjoy whipping up cosmetics from scratch. From one of Britain’s best-loved natural skincare brands, it’s beautifully photographed and with step-by-step instructions as well as in-depth info about the beauty and wellbeing benefits of many different natural and organic ingredients, we think you’ll find yourself dipping in and out of the 256 pages as you beat a regular path to the fridge and larder to find something to whip up next! (All the other ingredients – from cocoa butter to essential oils, etc. – can of course be found at the Neal’s Yard Remedies website.

Here’s just a (yummy) little taster.

Strawberries and Cream Scrub

Use up the last few strawberries in the fridge to make this exfoliating mask. Antioxidant and vitamin-rich strawberries can have an instantly revitalising and brightening effect on the skin, helping to boost radiance. Jumbo oats are gently exfoliating. When they are mixed with mashed strawberries and moisturising single cream, the resulting scrub looks, feels, smells and even tastes great.

2 tbsp jumbo oats

2-4 ripe strawberries

2 tsp single cream

1 Using a pestle and mortar or a stick blender, grind the oats into a powder.

2 Mash the strawberries in a bowl using a fork. Add the oats and mix together.

3 Pour in enough cream to make a paste. Use immediately, as it contains fresh ingredients and cannot be stored.

To apply, gently massage the scrub into the skin, avoiding the delicate eye area. If using as a mask, leave on the skin for 10 minutes. Gently remove with warm water. Pat skin dry with a clean towel.
